Chef’s Night: More than just a meal

Chef’s Night: More than just a meal

Mike and Kate Slentz

Last night my husband and I attended Chef’s Night at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, where we enjoyed a delightful meal, great company and supported a worthy cause.

Chef’s Night brings Central Florida’s top chefs into Second Harvest’s Community Kitchen to celebrate delicious food and raise funds for Second Harvest’s Culinary Training Program, which provides students with the skills and inspiration they need to obtain an entry-level position in a food service establishment.

This dinner kicked off the 2016-2017 Chef’s Nights series. This year’s series, named “A Year of the Steak,” will feature chefs that have a “steak” in our community. The talented chefs of Second Harvest, Israel Santiago, Terah Barrios, John Dizon, Jill Holland and Robert Pagen, along with participants in the Culinary Training Program, prepared the night’s fantastic five-course meal.

Guests were welcomed with a refreshing Cowboy cucumber julep and then lead into a Western-themed room – think gingham table cloths – where they were treated to live entertainment, wine, and the following gourmet dishes.

The next Chef’s Night will take place Thursday, June 23 at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, 411 Mercy Drive, Orlando, and feature a chef’s menu from LongHorn Steakhouse. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased here. For more information, contact Lanette Jarvis,, 407-514-1048.
